Sensor technology is the science and application of sensors for measuring and controlling changes in technical, biological or environmental systems. Non-electrical parameters are converted into electrical signals, which can then be processed electronically. Sensor technology is therefore closely related to measurement technology.
Sensor technology touches on a large number of current technical developments. For example, measured values from sensors often represent an input for controlling or regulating a system, e.g. in the automation of processes, or form the basis for obtaining valuable information. Sensors thus play an important role in areas such as process engineering, manufacturing technology, food technology, medical technology, imaging processes, automotive, mechatronics, and Internet of Things.
