As ecological awareness increases, environmental technology gains more and more importance. Environmental technology deals with processes and methods for protecting the environment and for restoring ecosystems that have already been damaged. Selected fields are waste disposal, such as waste incineration and waste water treatment, but also the recycling of materials, the reduction of air pollution, the reduction of CO2 emission or CO2 removal from the air, improvements in the use of renewable energies, and pollutant analysis. Many improvements in these fields can be patented. In waste incineration, as one example, the efficiency of the combustion can be enhanced or the fuel consumption and/or the generation of pollutants can be reduced. CO2 can removed from exhaust gas with higher yields. The generated heat can be used more efficiently, and recyclable materials (metals) can be recovered from slag to a higher extent.
